Bengaluru, Dec 1: \u201cI am always ready to provide necessary facilities and encouragement to sports persons of the state. Continuous funding for the sports sector has been allocated in the state budget. I urge anyone from the state to win a gold medal for the country in the Olympics,\u201d said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the award distribution ceremony organized by the Karnataka Olympic Association at Yavanika, he presented awards to sports persons.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have reserved Rs 6 crore for gold medalists and Rs 4 crore for silver medalists. But nobody has brought in any medals so far. I urge someone to bring a gold medal to the country,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The Karnataka Olympic Association has been presenting these awards for the past 22 years with the aim of encouraging sports persons to participate at the state, national, and international levels.<\/p>\n

K Govindaraj, the President of the Olympic Association, has been tirelessly working for the development of the sports sector. \u201cWhen I prepare the budget, I sit in discussions and ensure that everything necessary for the sports sector is included. Although I am not a sports person, I am a sports enthusiast. I used to participate in all sports during my school and college days, but I never won any awards. However, I won many awards at the Legislators\u2019 Sports Meet,\u201d he reminisced.<\/p>\n

\u201cSmaller countries are performing exceptionally well in sports. But it is disappointing that a large country like India has not won even a single gold medal at the Olympics,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Therefore, I am ready to provide all the necessary facilities for the sports persons of the state. I hope that the state\u2019s athletes will bring a gold medal for the country in the Olympics,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Home Minister G. Parameshwara, Karnataka Olympic Association President and Political Secretary to the Chief Minister Govindaraj, along with department officials and dignitaries, were present at the event.<\/p>\n

In his opening remarks, Govindaraj, President of the Olympic Association, requested the Chief Minister to implement a rule that would give sports students a 25% attendance concession and 10 grace marks, to encourage school children to engage more effectively in sports.<\/p>\n

Responding to this, CM Siddaramaiah assured, \u201cThese demands are justifiable. We will seriously review them.\u201d<\/p>\n
