The Karnataka State Basketball Association under the aegis of Basketball Federation of India hosted the prestigious 72nd Junior National Basketball Championship for Boys & Girls at Sree Kanteerava Indoor & Outdoor Stadium, Bangalore from 21st – 27th January 2023.

This was another major National Basketball Championship to be held in Karnataka in addition to holding 7 International events and many National Championships. This event is the most talented level Championship for players at the National level and a launching pad for players of the future stepping into the senior grade of player. The top 16 Teams in Boys & Girls qualified from five zones namely (North, South, East, West & North East Zone) will be participating in the 72nd Junior National Basketball Championship. The 72nd National Basketball Championship 2022 witnessed about 400 players in action supported by 80 coaches apart from 50 technical officials who  conducted the matches. This was the inception year of the event being played in the Zonal format and followed by Nationals in U18 category (among the top 16 teams in both Men & Women) after successfully being appreciated at the Senior Level too.

All the participants were provided accommodation in hotels, healthy and hygienic food, Local Transportation, Live telecasting of the games was done throughout the event. Karnataka State Basketball Association is known for its organizing ability and rational hospitality is going all out to make this gigantic venture a grand success.

The game is now witnessing a total transformation in India with players actively participating at various levels. The possibility of opening up of the game in a professional circuit is turning into a reality as the Basketball Federation of India is contemplating of starting a “Pro League” having commenced its own 3×3 and 5×5 Leagues recently too.

Bangaluru (Karnataka) – Tamil Nadu women and Uttar Pradesh men  returned to the top of 72nd Junior national Basketball Championship  crown with an 101 -32 victory over Chhattisgarh in women and   UP  Men over Rajasthan respectively here at the Kanteerava Stadium in Bangaluru

In women A Nikitha  connected on six  three-pointers to score 25 points followed by captain Satya scoring 23 for making Tamil Nadu women the champions with an victory .

In Men after leading 44-30 at the half time Uttar Pradesh scoring lead by Kushal Singh who contributed 31 points and supported by Harsh dagar with 18 ponts defeated Rajsthan 82-61

Bronze for Tamil Nadu  men and Punjab women

Tamil Nadu men defeated Punjab 78-64 while Punjab Women took the bronze defeating Maharashtra 90-55

The prizes were distributed by the Hon Minister for Higher education and IT Dr. C N Ashwathnaryanan in Presence of Dr. K Govindaraj MLC, President of Basketball Federation of India and Chandermukhi Sharma Secretary General of basketball Federation of India.

Sri Govindaraj  announced a cash  award  of 2 lakh to the winners and 1 lakh to the runner up and 50,000 to the second runner up.
